The Void, more formally known as The Void Between Realities, is the space existing between the boundaries of disparate realities, at least in the "local" region of the multiverse; an unending expanse of darkness and emptiness stretching seemingly into infinity, where the rules of reality subtly break down. Despite the name, The Void is not, in fact, totally empty, though the "things" within it are indeed extremely spread out.
The Void's generally associated with a lot of things, beyond just obviously "that creepy space outside of space". By its very nature, its presence starts to be felt in any place where the fabric of reality is weak, and said presence can be... unpleasant. The Void is, in a sense, corrosive with extended exposure. Its energies can warp both objects and people, and this tends to produce Void matter, usually more unstable forms that are themselves quite dangerous.
Within The Void, things break down in unusual ways- breathable atmosphere becomes irrelevant, gravity becomes irrelevant, light becomes irrelevant... even sustenance, in some cases. Why exactly The Void is bizarrely habitable is a mystery- but, of course, even being directly within its borders has its dangers. Beings that spend a long time in The Void tend to drift, becoming more and more of The Void until they eventually become a Void creature; many of the beings drifting within were once creatures from more conventional realities that found themselves in The Void, and were never able to find their way back out.
